Creative Writing Ideas for Children and Parents

We recently did a presentation at an elementary school on Creative Writing. We wanted to give Parents ideas to help their children make a habit of Creative Writing in their lives. Writing and reading are so crucial in our world. It is important for children to be able to communicate creatively, clearly and passionately. We’ve attached a copy of our Creative Writing Tips for Parents and Children presentation saved as a PDF.

Vocabulary, reading, imagination, creativity, organization and planning are all involved in writing great stories. Kids love to play games. Games are a wonderful way to help kids increase their vocabulary, improve their grammar and learn ways to organize their thoughts.

We’ve attached a copy of the Powerpoint we used at our presentation. It has tips for Children and Parents on writing more in their lives. One thing we believe in at Learners Lane is that children will learn things more easily if it is fun. That is why games are such a hugh part of our summer classes and school presentations. If children love a game, they will play it again and again, never realizing that they are also building important skills. Apples to Apples, Scrabble Slam, Rory’s Story Cubes, Scrabble, Bananagrams along with the book of word puzzles, “Bananagrams for Kids”, Analogies Puzzles by Critical Thinking are a few of the games we like. Take the time to try games with your children.

In addition, we compiled a list of some resources on the Internet that help kids improve grammar, learning writing organization skills, increase their understanding of character, setting and plot development. There are also several good iPhone and iPad apps that work on sentence structure and also provide writing prompts.
